Stained Glass Specialist
After studying for her master's degree in Product Design at Sarajevo Academy of Art and Design and serving an apprenticeship under celebrated glass artist Danny Lane, Maya Stanic opened her first stained glass studio in Chiswick in 2000. More recently she has relocated to a new purpose-designed studio in Acton.
Maya’s motto is:

For more than a two decades Stanic has been spreading her particular brend of happiness to homes across London as well as institutions such as The Ivy and the ENO designing bespoke windows or doors or restoring pieces .”Stained glass gives a space something special. If you have it on the front door or window, no matter what the weather is, light and colour are changing all through the day. “
On the workbench in her studio, a colourful panel is being pieced together, with numbered shapes being matched to a precise map, then held in place with lead strips. It's a fiddly job-one window panel might be composed of hundreds of individual pieces and take a week to complete. Stanic compares herself to a tailor cutting cloth, "What's the most efficient way of cutting the pieces from the sheet without having too much left over?”
Combining contemporary design ideas and latest technology with traditional stained glass techniques, she undertakes projects on a range of scales and complexities using techniques such as traditional leading, sandblasting, screen-printing, silver-staining and fusing. Her designs range from the very large scale utilizing bold impactful colours and shapes, to small close-ups with intricate details.
